- water pump (external vs. submersible)
- filters (biological and polishing)
- Ultraviolet lights (uv lights)
- waterfall bypass
- heaters
- automatic fish feeders
- rock
- automatic fill valves
- bottom drains (aerated vs non-aerated)
- side returns
- air pump and air stones
- lights (low voltage vs. 120 volt lights)
- piping (probably the most overlooked and cheapest part of the construction
